Quick Tips for Staying Organized with Your Bills and Payments

Building strong financial habits that keep your bills and payments organized can sometimes feel like an unreachable goal. But you can totally do it! You can create a simple routine that will help you stay organized and feel less stressed. You just need to find the right fit for you and your financial situation. Keep reading to see if our tips can help!

Use Your Calendar

Now is the time to take advantage of all the calendars we don’t realize we have at our disposal. From cell phones and laptops to fridge wipe boards or good old paper, we have calendars just waiting to be used for organization.

Calendar process:

  • First, pick the calendar or planner you know will work the best for you.
  • Then, track the due dates of your bills on the calendar as soon as you know them.
  • Feel free to use different color settings, stickers, or colorful markers – do whatever is going to help you stay focused.
  • Set up due date reminders ahead of time so you can prepare electronic payments, mail a check with enough time to make your deadline, or adjust finances accordingly.

Set Up Simple Reminders

If you’re not a visual person when it comes to remembering, that’s okay! Maybe just having set reminder alerts will be more helpful, and you can have your phone remember them for you. Set up recurring alerts or single specific alerts in your phone for things like monthly rent, utilities, or subscriptions.

Here are a few organizing tips:

  • Set an alert for a few days before the due date so you have time to pay.
  • Set an alert for the due date to ensure you haven’t forgotten about paying.
  • These alerts will remind you of your due dates without causing panic.

AutoPay for Regular Bills

AutoPay can be a good option for regular bills that stay about the same amount each month. When you use AutoPay, you don’t need to remember exact due dates, and you can rest assured that your payments will be made on time. Consequently, you can still stay in control of your bills while simplifying your payment schedule.

AutoPay does need a bit of preplanning. Ensure you:

  • Know when the payment will be withdrawn and for what amount.
  • Keep enough funds in your account to clear the bill.
  • Review your monthly statements.

Keep Things in One Place

To stay organized, you need to know where all your financial details are. Where you put them is up to you! You can choose from file folders, a tech-savvy app, or the top drawer of your dresser. Just as long as it’s a one-stop shop for your bills and paperwork. When things are easy to find, managing your payments could be less stressful.

Details to track:

  • Banking information
  • Business names, account names and numbers
  • Due dates
  • Payment amounts

Create a Routine that Works for You

Managing bills doesn’t have to be complicated, it’s about staying consistent and informed. You can build a system that feels manageable and stress-free with just a couple of financial tools like the ones above. All you need to do is start!
